Topic:   USB/RS232 adapter or native serial port?

By: GuestPosted on: Jun 14 2018 at 09:36:15 AM
Hello,

our notebook with serial port is defective. Is it better to buy a new notebook with a serial port or is a USB adapter sufficient? Are there problems if the machine has 12V and the USB adapter 5V?
The HP Probook 650 g2 notebook has a native serial port.

Real serial port is better but usb is ok.

Don't worry about usb being 5v. The usb/rs232 chipset handles cnc rs232 voltage levels internally.

Are you sure that HP has a native serial port? Looking at the picture the only 'old style' port I see is a 15pin 'D' connector. That's VGA, Not serial.
