Topic:   Fanuc Buffer overload only at end of longer programs

By: larryPosted on: Sep 7 2018 at 07:04:14 AM
We have a portvision plus on our network that has been there for years. We recently lost our very old windows xp computer due to harddrive failure. We switched to another older computer and started using an old install of easy dnc and have a buffer overload failure on all three fanuc machines we have. It happens only at the end of the program. If I load an extra program after the long program I still get the error but the first long program installs. If I put a delay of 25 the program goes away but my load time increases. Have disabled fifo without any change. It happens even on a slower baud rate. It does not happen on my haas machine which does not use the wait on the xoxoff.

Edit to above. If I put a delay of 25 the problem goes away.....

'Delay' of 25. I assume you mean transmit block delay ?

You didn't say what Baud Rate you're working at? You might be able to reduce the Block Delay if you use a slower baud rate.

Do you use Flow Control? First try RTS/CTS. I don't know whether your cable has the necessary pins wired for RTS/CTS but it just takes a moment to try it and see if it makes a difference. Next try XOn/XOff. You should use flow control in any case.

Exact problem occurs even at a slower baud rate. Had the faster settings with a different computer older actually. Have not seen it found it necessary to use anything else for over 20 years so rather not pursue changing the wiring. Baud rate of 19200 and 9600 both fail on two different machines. Just switch to another computer (newer I5) and the problem seems to be resolved. Running on a trial version of easy DNC now since this one is not licensed.
